First Corinthians

«   Chapter 10   »

1
Brothers, I do not want you to be jahil. Our first fathers were all under the pillar of cloud and the all passed through the middle of the sea.
2
They all belonged to Musa through their passing under the cloud and through the sea.
3
They also all ate the spiritual manna
4
and drank the same spiritual drink. They were drinking from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and this rock is Al-Masih.
5
But Allah did not have rida in most of them, so they died scattered in the wilderness.
6
These events were lessons for us, so that we would not desire evil like they did.
7
So do not worship idols like some of them did. As it is written in the kitab of Allah: "The people sat down for food and drink and then they got up to dance and play foolishly."
8
Do not commit immorality, like some of them did, and twenty-three thousand died because of that in one day.
9
Do not test Rabb Al-Alamin by complaining, like some of them tested him and serpents destroyed them.
10
Do not grumble like some of them did and the angel of destruction destroyed them.
11
All this happened to them as a symbol of what might happen to us, and Allah wrote it as a lesson and warning to us, who have now reached the last days.
12
So whoever imagines that he is standing should be careful, so that he does not fall.
13
You will only be subjected to the trials that affect all humans. God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but along with the trial, he will make a straight path to its end, so that you endure it.
14
So beloved ones, flee from worshiping idols.
15
I speak to you because you are reasonable people, so meditate on my sayings.
16
As for the cup of baraka that we drink after the dua' of thanksgiving, is it not a sharing together in the blood of Al-Masih? As for the bread that we break, is it not a sharing together in the body of Al-Masih?
17
We are many, yet one body, because the loaf of bread that we all share in eating together is one.
18
Consider Bani Israil. Do not those who eat the sacrifices share in the altar?
19
So what do I mean? Is what is sacrificed to idols anything? Is an idol anything?
20
No. But what the nations of polytheists sacrifice is for the jinn and not for Allah. I do not want you to become partners of jinn.
21
You cannot drink both the cup of our mawla and the cup of jinn. You cannot eat both at the table of our mawla and the table of jinn.
22
Do we want to provoke the jealousy of our mawla? Are we stronger than he is?
23
Everything is halal, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is halal, but not everything strengthens.
24
Let no one seek his own benefit, but the benefit of others.
25
Eat any meat that is sold in the market, and do not investigate it for the benefit of your consciences.
26
For "Allah owns the earth and everything in it."
27
If an unbeliever invites you and you want to accept his invitation, eat anything he presents to you without investigating it for the benefit of your consciences.
28
But if anyone informs you, saying "This was sacrificed to idols," do not eat of it for the benefit of the person who informed you and for the benefit of conscience.
29
I mean his conscience, not your consciences. Why does the conscience of someone else control my freedom?
30
If I eat something and give thanks to Allah, why do they scorn me regarding what I give thanks and praise for?
31
So, if you eat or drink or do anything, do it all to honor Allah Al-Majeed.
32
Do not make anyone stumble because of you, whether they are Yahud or Greeks or the jama'as of chosen people of Allah.
33
Similarly, I also try to please everyone in everything. I do not seek for my own benefit, but for the benefit of many, so that they may be owners of the right hand.
