First Corinthians
« Chapter 11 »
1
Be mentored by me as I am mentored by Al-Masih.
2
I commend you that you remember me in every matter, and that you hold firmly to the teaching as I delivered it to you.
4
So every man who prays dua' or prophesies with his head covered scorns his head.
5
And every woman who prays or preaches with her head unveiled scorns her head like the scorn of a woman who shaves her head with a razor.
6
If any woman wants to be unveiled, let her cut her hair completely off. But if cutting or shaving the hair of women is scornful, let her be covered.
7
The man must not cover his head, since Allah formed him to reflect his nature and his glory. But Allah formed the woman to reflect the glory of the man.
8
The man did not originate from the woman, but the woman originated from the man.
10
So the woman must put a symbol of authority on her head because of the angels.
11
But the woman is not independent from the man, and the man is not independent from the woman in their belonging to our mawla.
12
The origin of woman is man, and man is now born from woman. And the origin of everything is Allah.
13
You be the judge! Is it suitable for a woman to pray dua' to Allah while she is unveiled?
14
Does not nature itself teach you that long hair for a man is scornful to him
15
and that long hair for a woman is an honor to her? Hair is given to her as a covering.
16
If anyone wants to object to this matter, we have no other practice in the jama'as of chosen people of Allah.
17
But I do not commend you on this matter: There is no benefit in your meeting, but harm.
18
First, I have heard that you are divided into parties whenever you meet as a jama'a. I partially believe this.
20
When you meet together, you do not truly eat from the dinner table of our mawla.
21
Rather, you race each other to dinner before the others. So one group is hungry and another is drunk.
22
Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Do you despise the jama'a of chosen people of Allah and scorn those who do not have anything? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you? I will not commend you in this matter!
23
I delivered to you what I received from our mawla: That our mawla Isa took a loaf of bread the night when he was betrayed.
24
Then he gave thanks and praise to Allah, broke the bread, and said, "This is my body, given as a ransom for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
26
Whenever you eat this bread and drink from the cup, you announce the death of our mawla until he comes.
27
So whoever eats the bread or drinks from the cup in an inappropriate way has become guilty of sinning against the body and blood of our mawla.
28
So let a person test himself, and then eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
29
Whoever eats or drinks without distinguishing the honored body causes judgment to fall on himself as a consequence of his eating and drinking.
30
For this reason, many of you have become weak and sick, and some of you have passed away.
31
But if we had judged ourselves, judgment would not have fallen on us.
33
Brothers, when you meet together at the table to eat, wait for each other.
34
If one of you is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you do not meet for judgment upon yourselves. As for the rest of the matters, I will deal with them when I come to you.
