First Thessalonians

«   Chapter 2   »

1
Brothers, you know that we did not visit you in vain.
2
We were exposed to pains and insults in the city of Philippi, as you know. But we had courage in Allah to proclaim the good news of Allah to you despite fierce resistance.
3
Our appeal to you was not misleading, unclean or deceptive.
4
Allah had rida to entrust us with the good news about him. So we speak to give rida to Allah, who tests our hearts, not to men.
5
We did not resort to flattery, as you know. Nor did we conceal any greed. Allah is witness to that.
6
We did not seek the commendation of men, whether from you or others.
7
We were messengers of Al-Masih, so we could have burdened you with our requests. But we were innocent like children among you. We were like a nursing mother taking care of her children.
8
We loved you greatly, so we willingly and gladly gave you both the good news of Allah and also ourselves. This was because you had become so dear to us.
9
Brothers, you remember how hard we worked and struggled, night and day. We did not want to burden any of you while announce to you the good news of Allah.
10
You are witnesses, and Allah is also, of our manner of life among you trusting believers. You know how reverent, righteous, and pure it was.
11
You know how we treated each one of you like a father treats his children.
12
We appealed to you, encouraged you and advised you to walk in a manner of life that is appropriate to Allah, who called you into his kingdom and glory.
13
So we praise and thank Allah always that you accepted the word of Allah which you heard from us. You acknowledged it as the word of Allah which is working in you trusting believers, not as the word of people.
14
Brothers, you were mentored by the jama'as of people chosen by Allah who belong to Al-Masih Isa in the province of Al-Quds. For you suffered from your fellow citizens as they suffered from Al-Yahud,
15
who killed our mawla Isa just like they killed the anbiya. They oppressed us, and they do not seek the rida of Allah. They oppose all Bani Adam.
16
They hinder us from announcing the message to the non-Yahudi peoples to keep them from being guided. Thus Al-Yahud are filled with sins always. But the full anger of Allah has come upon them.
17
We were separated from you for a little while in body, though not in heart. Our hearts greatly missed seeing you.
18
So we wanted to visit you. I, Paul, tried more than once, but Al-Shaitan hindered me.
19
What is our hope and joy and the crown of our boasting in the presence of our mawla Isa when he comes? Is it not you?
20
This is because you are the source of our glory and joy.
