First Timothy

«   Chapter 5   »

1
Do not rebuke a sheikh harshly. Urge him as if he were your father. Treat young men as if they were brothers to you.
2
Treat old women as if they were mothers to you. Treat young women as if they were sisters to you, with all chastity.
3
Honor every widow who has no one to support her.
4
If a widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn reverence first toward their families, and compensate their parents by giving back to them. Allah has rida in this.
5
A true widow, who has no one to support her, asks Rabb Al-Alamin for her livelihood, prays in dua' and seeks his aid night and day.
6
A widow who is busy with pleasures is as good as dead, even though she is alive.
7
Command them these things so that no one will blame them.
8
If someone does not support his relatives, and especially his family, he is a murtadd and is worse than disbeliever.
9
Do not register a widow in the charity register unless she is over sixty years old, and was the wife of one husband.
10
People must also have given shahada about her righteous deeds: bringing up children, being hospitable to strangers, giving to holy believers, helping poor people, and continuing in every good work.
11
Do not register the names of young widows, because they will want to marry when their instincts distract them from Al-Masih.
12
In that way, they will deserve condemnation for their turning back from their first vow.
13
At the same time, they get used to idleness by going from house to house. Worse than idleness, they also gossip, interfere with the affairs of other people, and speak words that they should not.
14
So I want the younger women to get married, have children, and manage their own households. Then the enemy will not have a chance to insult us.
15
Some women have already gone astray and followed Al-Shaitan.
16
If a believing woman has relatives who are widows, let her help them and not burden the jama'a with the burden of taking care of them, so that the jama'a of chosen people can help widows who have no one to support them.
17
The sheikhs of the jama'a who are competent in supervision deserve twice as much honor, especially the ones who work hard in preaching and teaching.
18
For Allah said in the kitab, "Do not put a muzzle on the bull that grinds the grain in the threshing floor." He also said, "The laborer deserves his pay."
19
Do not accept an accusation against a sheikh of the jama'a unless there is shahada from two or three witnesses.
20
Rebuke the sheikhs who sin in front of the jama'a, so that the rest will be deterred.
21
I urge you by Allah, by Al-Masih Isa, and by the chosen angels to be careful to implement these commands without partiality or favoritism to anyone.
22
Do not be hasty to put your hands on anyone to appoint them. Otherwise you would share in the sins of other people. Keep yourself tahir.
23
Do not drink only water. Drink a little wine as medicine for your stomach and your chronic sicknesses.
24
The sins of some people are apparent and their condemnation comes soon. The sins of other people are late in appearing.
25
In the same way, righteous deeds are apparent. Even the righteous deeds that are not apparent will not remain hidden.
