In those days, the number of the followers was increasing. The Yahudi believers who spoke Greek complained against the believers who spoke Hebrew, because their widows were not getting their share of food during the daily distribution.
وَفِي تِلْكَ الْأَيَّامِ كَانَ عَدَدُ الْأَتْبَاعِ يَزْدَادُ، وَحَدَثَ أَنْ تَذَمَّرَ الْيَهُودُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ النَّاطِقُونَ بِالْيُونَانِيَّةِ عَلَى النَّاطِقِينَ بِالْعِبْرِيَّةِ لِأَنَّ أَرَامِلَهُمْ لَمْ يَكُنَّ يَنَلْنَ حِصَّتَهُنَّ خِلَالَ تَوْزِيعِ الطَّعَامِ الْيَوْمِيِّ.

The hawariyun called the group of the followers together and said, "It is not appropriate for us to neglect teaching the word of Allah in order to distribute food.
فَاسْتَدْعَى الْحَوَارِيُّونَ الِاثْنَا عَشَرَ جَمَاعَةَ الْأَتْبَاعِ وَقَالُوا: «لَا يَلِيقُ بِنَا أَنْ نُهْمِلَ تَعْلِيمَ كَلِمَةِ اللهِ لِكَيْ نُوَزِّعَ طَعَامًا،

فَاخْتَارُوا مِنْ بَيْنِكُمْ، أَيُّهَا الْإِخْوَةُ، سَبْعَةَ رِجَالٍ شُرَفَاءَ مُفْعَمِينَ بِرُوحِ اللهِ وَبِالْحِكْمَةِ وَسَنُعَيِّنُهُمْ مَسْئُولِينَ عَلَى هَذَا الْأَمْرِ

Then we can devote all our time to praying in dua' and teaching the word of Allah."
حَتَّى نَتَفَرَّغَ نَحْنُ لِلدُّعَاءِ وَتَعْلِيمِ كَلِمَةِ اللهِ.»

فَرَضِيَتِ الْجَمَاعَةُ كُلُّهَا بِحُكْمِ الْحَوَارِيِّينَ وَاخْتَارُوا اصْطَفَانَ، وَهُوَ رَجُلٌ مُفْعَمٌ بِرُوحِ اللهِ الْقُدُّوسِ قَوِيُّ التَّوَكُّلِ، وَاخْتَارُوا أَيْضًا فِيلِيبَ وَبَرْخُورَ وَنِكَانُرَ وَتِيمُونَ وَبَرْمَانَ وَنِيقُولَا، وَهُوَ مُتَهَوِّدٌ مِنْ أَنْطَاكِيَةَ،

They came with them in front of the hawariyun, who prayed in dua' for them and appointed them by putting their hands on them.
وَجَاءُوا بِهِمْ أَمَامَ الْحَوَارِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ دَعَوْا لَهُمْ، وَعَيَّنُوهُمْ بِوَضْعِ أَيْدِيهِمْ عَلَيْهِمْ.

The word of Allah spread, and the number of followers increased greatly in Al-Quds. Many of the ahbar became obedient believers.
وَكَانَتْ كَلِمَةُ اللهِ تَنْتَشِرُ، وَازْدَادَ عَدَدُ الْأَتْبَاعِ كَثِيرًا فِي الْقُدْسِ وَأَصْبَحَ كَثِيرُونَ مِنَ الْأَحْبَارِ مُؤْمِنِينَ مُطِيعِينَ.

Stephen was filled with grace and power from Allah, and he did miracles and great ayat among the people.
وَكَانَ اصْطَفَانُ مُمْتَلِئًا فَضْلًا وَقُوَّةً مِنَ اللهِ، وَكَانَ يَأْتِي بِبَيِّنَاتٍ وَآيَاتٍ كُبْرَى بَيْنَ الشَّعْبِ.

Some Yahud from 'The Freed Slaves' house of salat, along with people from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, and Asia Minor argued with him.
فَقَامَ يُجَادِلُهُ يَهُودٌ مِنْ مُصَلَّى الْأَحْرَارِ وَمَعَهُمْ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقَيْرَوَانِ وَالْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ وَكِيلِيكِيَّةَ وَآسْيَا الصُّغْرَى،

But they could not resist his wisdom and the words that Ruh Allah inspired to him.
لَكِنَّهُمْ عَجَزُوا عَنْ مُقَاوَمَةِ حِكْمَتِهِ وَالْكَلَامِ الَّذِي أَوْحَى لَهُ رُوحُ اللهِ بِهِ،

They stirred up some liars against him to give false shahada, "We heard him say kufr about Musa and Allah."
فَحَرَّضُوا بَعْضَ الْكَذَّابِينَ عَلَيْهِ لِيَشْهَدُوا: «سَمِعْنَاهُ يَكْفُرُ بِمُوسَى وَاللهِ.»

They stirred up the Yahudi people, their sheikhs and the fuqaha against him, so they arrested Stephen and brought him to the highest council.
فَأَثَارُوا الشَّعْبَ وَشُيُوخَهُمْ وَالْفُقَهَاءَ ضِدَّهُ، فَقَبَضُوا عَلَى اصْطَفَانَ وَأَحْضَرُوهُ إِلَى الْمَجْلِسِ الْأَعْلَى.

Then they brought people who gave false shahada. They said, "This man does not stop insulting the holy house and the Tawrat.
ثُمَّ جَاءُوا بِالشُّهُودِ الْكَاذِبِينَ وَشَهِدُوا زُورًا قَائِلِينَ: «لَا يَكُفُّ هَذَا عَنْ إِهَانَةِ الْبَيْتِ الْمُقَدَّسِ وَشَرِيعَةِ التَّوْرَاةِ،

We heard him say that Isa Al-Nasiri will destroy the house of Allah and change the sunan that we inherited from Musa."
إِذْ سَمِعْنَاهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ عِيسَى النَّاصِرِيَّ سَيُدَمِّرُ بَيْتَ اللهِ وَيُغَيِّرُ السُّنَنَ الَّتِي وَرِثْنَاهَا عَنْ مُوسَى.»

The people sitting in the council looked at the face of Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
وَقَدْ تَطَلَّعَ الْجَالِسُونَ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ إِلَى وَجْهِ اصْطَفَانَ فَوَجَدُوهُ كَوَجْهِ مَلَاكٍ.
