« Chapter 5 »

Walk in love, mentored by Al-Masih, who loved us and gave himself as a ransom for us, a sacrifice to Allah, a sweet-smelling, acceptable offering to him.
وَاسْلُكُوا بِالْمَحَبَّةِ مُقْتَدِينَ بِالْمَسِيحِ الَّذِي أَحَبَّنَا وَبَذَلَ نَفْسَهُ فِدًى لَنَا تَضْحِيَةً لِلهِ وَقُرْبَانًا مُرْضِيًا زَكِيَّ الرَّائِحَةِ عِنْدَهُ.

But avoid even the mention of fornication, and all uncleanness and greed among you. Those are not suitable for holy people.
لَكِنْ تَجَنَّبُوا حَتَّى ذِكْرَ الْفُجُورِ وَكُلِّ نَجَاسَةٍ وَطَمَعٍ بَيْنَكُمْ، إِذْ هَذِهِ لَا تَلِيقُ بِالْمُقَدَّسِينَ،

Be far from all words that are evil, silly, or obscene. These are not appropriate. Rather, let your words be praising and thanking Allah.
وَابْتَعِدُوا عَنْ كُلِّ كَلَامٍ رَدِيءٍ أَوْ سَخِيفٍ أَوْ بَذِيءٍ، فَذَلِكَ غَيْرُ مُلَائِمٍ، بَلْ لِيَكُنْ كَلَامُكُمْ بِحَمْدِ اللهِ وَشُكْرِهِ،

Be sure that no fornicator, impure person, or greedy person, who is like an idolater, has a portion in the kingdom of Al-Masih and Allah.
فَكُونُوا عَلَى يَقِينٍ أَنَّ لَا لِلْفَاجِرِ وَلَا لِلنَّجِسِ وَلَا لِلطَّمَّاعِ الَّذِي هُوَ بِمَثَابَةِ عَابِدِ الْأَصْنَامِ نَصِيبَ فِي مَلَكُوتِ الْمَسِيحِ وَاللهِ.

Do not let anyone deceive you with worthless words. The anger of Allah rests on the sons of disobedience because of these matters.
لَا يَخْدَعْكُمْ أَحَدٌ بِكَلَامٍ بَاطِلٍ، فَبِسَبَبِ هَذِهِ الْأُمُورِ يَحِلُّ غَضَبُ اللهِ عَلَى أَبْنَاءِ الْمَعْصِيَةِ،

Therefore do not sit with them.
لِذَلِكَ لَا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ،

The fruit of light is everything good and righteous and true.
إِذْ ثَمَرُ النُّورِ هُوَ كُلُّ خَيْرٍ وَصَلَاحٍ وَحَقٍّ،

Try to know what gives rida to Rabb Al-Alamin.
فَاسْعُوا إِلَى مَعْرِفَةِ مَا يُرْضِي رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ.

Do not join the unjust in their barren works, but rather expose them.
لَا تُشَارِكُوا الظَّالِمِينَ فِي أَعْمَالِهِمِ الْعَقِيمَةِ بَلِ افْضَحُوهُمْ،

Everything that is exposed to light is uncovered and apparent.
كُلُّ مَا يَتَعَرَّضُ لِلنُّورِ يُكْشَفُ وَيُظْهَرُ
14
وَيُصْبِحُ مَا يُظْهَرُ نُورًا، إِذْ يُقَالُ: «أَيُّهَا النَّائِمُ، اِسْتَيْقِظْ وَانْبَعِثْ حَيًّا مِنْ بَيْنِ الْأَمْوَاتِ، فَيُشْرِقُ عَلَيْكَ الْمَسِيحُ.»

Be careful to walk wisely and don't be jahil.
فَاحْرِصُوا أَنْ تَسْلُكُوا بِحِكْمَةٍ لَا بِجَهَالَةٍ،

Make use of every opportunity because of the spreading of evil in these days.
وَاغْتَنِمُوا كُلَّ فُرْصَةٍ، بِسَبَبِ انْتِشَارِ الشَّرِّ فِي هَذِهِ الْأَيَّامِ،
17
Do not be jahil, but rather understand what the will of Allah is.
فَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْجُهَلَاءِ، بَلِ افْهَمُوا مَا هِيَ مَشِيئَةُ اللهِ،

Do not get drunk with wine, since there is moral depravity in that. Rather be filled with Ruh Allah.
وَلَا تَسْكَرُوا بِالْخَمْرِ إِذْ فِي ذَلِكَ الْخَلَاعَةُ، بَلِ افْعَمُوا بِرُوحِ اللهِ،

Speak to one another with anthems from the Zabur, praises, and spiritual anthems. Praise him and sing from your hearts to mention Al-mawla.
مُكَلِّمِينَ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضًا بِأَنَاشِيدَ مِنَ الزَّبُورِ وَتَسَابِيحَ وَأَنَاشِيدَ رُوحِيَّةٍ، مُسَبِّحِينَ بِحَمْدِهِ مُنْشِدِينَ مِنْ قُلُوبِكُمْ لِذِكْرِ الْمَوْلَى،

Submit to each other in the fear of Al-Masih.
خَاضِعِينَ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ فِي مَخَافَةِ الْمَسِيحِ.

Wives, submit to your husbands as you submit to our mawla.
أَيَّتُهَا الزَّوْجَاتُ اخْضَعْنَ لِأَزْوَاجِكُنَّ كَخُضُوعِكُنَّ لِمَوْلَانَا،

The husband is the head of his wife as Al-Masih is the head of his jama'a. He is the ransomer of the body.
لِأَنَّ الرَّجُلَ رَأْسُ زَوْجَتِهِ كَمَا أَنَّ الْمَسِيحَ رَأْسُ جَمَاعَتِهِ، وَهُوَ فَادِي الْجَسَدِ،

As the jama'a of chosen people submits to Al-Masih, let a wife submit to her husband in everything.
وَكَمَا تَخْضَعُ جَمَاعَةُ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ لِلْمَسِيحِ، فَلْتَخْضَعِ الزَّوْجَةُ لِزَوْجِهَا فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ.

Husbands, love your wives like Al-Masih loved his jama'a. He sacrificed himself as a ransom for it,
أَيُّهَا الْأَزْوَاجُ، أَحِبُّوا زَوْجَاتِكُمْ مِثْلَمَا أَحَبَّ الْمَسِيحُ جَمَاعَتَهُ وَضَحَّى بِنَفْسِهِ فِدًى لَهَا،

in order to make it pure and holy by the ghusl of the word, as with water,
حَتَّى يُطَهِّرَهَا مُقَدَّسَةً بِغَسْلِ الْكَلِمَةِ كَمَا بِالْمَاءِ،

and in order to join it to himself. Then it would be brilliant, free from any uncleanness, wrinkle or lack. Rather, it would be holy and without flaw.
وَيَضُمَّهَا لِنَفْسِهِ بَهِيَّةً خَالِيَةً مِنْ كُلِّ دَنَسٍ أَوْ تَجَعُّدٍ أَوْ أَيِّ نَقْصٍ، بَلْ مُقَدَّسَةً بِلَا عَيْبٍ.

In the same way, husbands must love their wives like they love their bodies. The one who loves his wife loves himself.
هَكَذَا عَلَى الْأَزْوَاجِ أَنْ يُحِبُّوا زَوْجَاتِهِمْ كَمَحَبَّتِهِمْ لِأَجْسَادِهِمْ، إِذْ مَنْ يُحِبُّ زَوْجَتَهُ يُحِبُّ نَفْسَهُ،

No one hates his body. He nourishes it and takes care of it like Al-Masih does with his jama'a,
فَلَا أَحَدَ يُبْغِضُ جَسَدَهُ، بَلْ يُغَذِّيهِ وَيَعْتَنِي بِهِ كَمَا يَفْعَلُ الْمَسِيحُ بِجَمَاعَتِهِ،

because we are members of his body.
لِأَنَّنَا أَعْضَاءُ جَسَدِهِ.

This is a great mystery, but by it I mean Al-Masih and his jama'a.
إِنَّ هَذَا السِّرَّ لَعَظِيمٌ، لَكِنَّنِي أَعْنِي بِهِ الْمَسِيحَ وَجَمَاعَتَهُ،

Despite this, every man of you must love his wife as he loves himself, and every wife must revere her husband.
وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى كُلِّ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يُحِبَّ زَوْجَتَهُ كَمَا يُحِبُّ نَفْسَهُ، وَعَلَى كُلِّ زَوْجَةٍ أَنْ تَهَابَ زَوْجَهَا.
