Philippians
« Chapter 2 »
1
If you have encouragement in your belonging to Al-Masih, or comfort in his love, or sharing in his Ruh, or sympathy or compassion,
فَإِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ تَشْجِيعٌ بِانْتِمَائِكُمْ إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ أَوْ تَعْزِيَةٌ فِي مَحَبَّتِهِ أَوْ مُشَارَكَةٌ فِي رُوحِهِ أَوْ شَفَقَةٌ أَوْ رَأْفَةٌ،

be harmonious with one determination, in tune with one love, united in one Ruh, determined to reach one goal. This will complete my joy.
فَكُونُوا مُنْسَجِمِينَ بِعَزْمٍ وَاحِدٍ، مُتَآلِفِينَ بِمَحَبَّةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، مُتَّحِدِينَ بِرُوحٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، عَازِمِينَ عَلَى بُلُوغِ هَدَفٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَبِذَلِكَ أَكْمِلُوا فَرَحِي،

Do not do anything from a motivation of competition or conceit, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.
وَلَا تَعْمَلُوا شَيْئًا بِدَافِعِ الْمُنَافَسَةِ أَوِ الْغُرُورِ، لَكِنْ بِتَوَاضُعٍ احْسَبُوا غَيْرَكُمْ أَهَمَّ مِنْكُمْ،

Do not be concerned with your own interests, but be concerned with the interests of others also.
وَلَا تَهْتَمُّوا بِمَصَالِحِكُمْ، بَلِ اهْتَمُّوا بِمَصَالِحِ غَيْرِكُمْ أَيْضًا.

May this same determination be in you that was in Al-Masih Isa.
لِيَكُنْ فِيكُمُ الْعَزْمُ عَيْنُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ فِي الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى،

He had the nature of Allah, but he did not hold on to his level with Allah,
اَلَّذِي فِيهِ طَبِيعَةُ اللهِ، وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَتَمَسَّكْ بِمُسْتَوَاهُ عِنْدَ اللهِ،

but emptied himself, taking the nature of a slave in the form of a person, and sharing in the essence of a person.
بَلْ أَخْلَى نَفْسَهُ مُتَّخِذًا طَبِيعَةَ عَبْدٍ فِي مِثَالِ إِنْسَانٍ وَمُشَارِكًا فِي ذَاتِ الْإِنْسَانِ،

Then he became humble by his obedience until death, even death on the cross.
ثُمَّ تَوَاضَعَ بِطَاعَتِهِ إِلَى حَدِّ الْمَوْتِ، حَتَّى الْمَوْتِ عَلَى الصَّلِيبِ،

So Allah has made him of high status and has given him the name that is exalted above every other name.
فَجَعَلَهُ اللهُ رَفِيعَ الدَّرَجَاتِ وَوَهَبَهُ الِاسْمَ الَّذِي سَمَا عَلَى كُلِّ اسْمٍ آخَرَ،

Thus everyone in the heavens and on the earth and under the earth will bow on his knees in honor to the name of Isa.
لِكَيْ يَرْكَعَ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ كُلُّ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَفِي الْأَرْضِ وَتَحْتَ الْأَرْضِ إِكْرَامًا لِاسْمِ عِيسَى،

My beloved ones, you were always obedient as long as I was with you. So do more than that now that I am absent. Strive to complete your salvation in fear and trembling.
لِذَلِكَ يَا أَحِبَّائِي، كُنْتُمْ دَائِمًا طَائِعِينَ طَالَمَا كُنْتُ مَعَكُمْ، فَكُونُوا الْآنَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَنَا غَائِبٌ، اِسْعَوْا إِلَى تَمَامِ نَجَاتِكُمْ فِي خَشْيَةٍ وَارْتِجَافٍ،

Allah is the one who works in you for you to will and do what gives him rida.
لِأَنَّ اللهَ هُوَ الْفَاعِلُ فِيكُمْ لِتَشَاءُوا وَتَعْمَلُوا مَا يُرْضِيهِ.
14
Do everything you do without complaining or arguing.
فَافْعَلُوا كُلَّ مَا تَفْعَلُونَهُ بِلَا تَذَمُّرٍ وَلَا مُجَادَلَةٍ،

Then you will be innocent and chaste, the perfect iyal of Allah in the middle of a lost, off-track generation. You will be lights among them, shining in this world,
حَتَّى تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْأَبْرِيَاءِ الْأَعِفَّاءِ، عِيَالَ اللهِ الْكَامِلِينَ وَسْطَ جِيلِ الْمُنْحَرِفِينَ الضَّالِّينَ، حَيْثُ أَنْتُمْ أَنْوَارٌ بَيْنَهُمْ سَاطِعَةٌ فِي هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا،

holding the word of life so that I can boast that my struggle and weariness with you were not in vain on the day of the coming of Al-Masih.
مُتَمَسِّكِينَ بِكَلِمَةِ الْحَيَاةِ حَتَّى أَفْتَخِرَ بِأَنَّ جِهَادِي وَتَعَبِي مَعَكُمْ لَمْ يَكُونَا عَبَثًا فِي يَوْمِ مَجِيءِ الْمَسِيحِ.

If I sacrificed my life as a qurban for the sake of your trust, I would rejoice and be glad with you all.
وَلَوْ ضَحَّيْتُ بِحَيَاتِي كَقُرْبَانٍ فِي سَبِيلِ تَوَكُّلِكُمْ، فَسَوْفَ أَفْرَحُ وَأَبْتَهِجُ مَعَكُمْ جَمِيعًا،

You, too, rejoice and be glad with me!
فَأَنْتُمْ كَذَلِكَ افْرَحُوا وَابْتَهِجُوا مَعِي أَيْضًا.
19
My wish, with the permission of my mawla Isa, is to send Timothy to you soon, so my heart would be calmed by knowing your news.
أُمْنِيَّتِي بِإِذْنِ مَوْلَايَ عِيسَى هِيَ أَنْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ تِيمُوثَا قَرِيبًا، فَيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي بِمَعْرِفَةِ أَخْبَارِكُمْ،

He has no equal in caring for your interests and sincerity toward you.
إِذْ لَيْسَ لَهُ مَثِيلٌ فِي الِاهْتِمَامِ بِمَصَالِحِكُمْ وَالْإِخْلَاصِ لَكُمْ.
21
The others all seek after their personal interests, not after the interests of Al-Masih Isa.
فَالْآخَرُونَ جَمِيعًا يَسْعَوْنَ وَرَاءَ مَصَالِحِهِمِ الشَّخْصِيَّةِ لَا وَرَاءَ مَصَالِحِ الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى،

But you know the worth of Timothy. He served with me for the sake of spreading the good news like a son with his father.
لَكِنَّكُمْ تَعْرِفُونَ قِيمَةَ تِيمُوثَا، وَكَيْفَ خَدَمَ مَعِي فِي سَبِيلِ نَشْرِ الْبُشْرَى مِثْلَ ابْنٍ مَعَ أَبِيهِ،
23
I hope to send him to you as soon as my situation becomes clear.
فَأَتَمَنَّى أَنْ أُرْسِلَهُ إِلَيْكُمْ حَالَمَا يَتَبَيَّنُ وَضْعِي،
24
I am confident in our mawla that I will also come to you soon.
وَأَنَا وَاثِقٌ بِمَوْلَانَا بِأَنَّنِي سَآتِي إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْضًا قَرِيبًا.
25
But I have considered it necessary to send Epaphroditus to you. He is my brother, my co-worker, and my fellow struggler. You sent him to aid me in my need.
وَلَكِنَّنِي اعْتَبَرْتُ إِرْسَالَ أَبَافْرُودِيتَ إِلَيْكُمْ ضَرُورِيًّا، إِذْ هُوَ أَخِي وَشَرِيكِي فِي الْعَمَلِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَعِي، وَالَّذِي كُنْتُمْ قَدْ بَعَثْتُمُوهُ لِيُعِينَنِي فِي حَاجَتِي،

He has been missing you all, and was distressed that you heard about his illness.
لِأَنَّهُ اشْتَاقَ إِلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعًا وَانْغَمَّ لِسَمَاعِكُمْ عَنْ مَرَضِهِ.
27
He really was near to death in his illness, but Allah showed mercy to him, and to me also. Thus I did not become even sadder.
وَفِعْلًا كَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى مِنَ الْمَوْتِ فِي مَرَضِهِ، لَكِنَّ اللهَ رَحِمَهُ، وَبِذَلِكَ رَحِمَنِي أَيْضًا، حَتَّى لَا يُضِيفَ لِحُزْنِي حُزْنًا.
28
So I am eager to send him soon, so that you can rejoice and be less anxious.
لِذَلِكَ تَحَمَّسْتُ أَنْ أُرْسِلَهُ سَرِيعًا، حَتَّى تَفْرَحُوا وَتَقِلَّ هُمُومِي،
29
Welcome him with all joy in the name of our mawla, and honor people like him.
فَرَحِّبُوا بِهِ بِكُلِّ فَرَحٍ بِاسْمِ مَوْلَانَا، وَأَكْرِمُوا أَمْثَالَهُ،
30
He almost died in working for our mawla, and risked his life to complete your service to me.
لِأَنَّهُ شَارَفَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ فِي الْعَمَلِ لِمَوْلَانَا، وَخَاطَرَ بِحَيَاتِهِ لِيُتَمِّمَ خِدْمَتَكُمْ لِي.
