« Chapter 4
1
My beloved brothers, you are my joy and the crown for my head. I miss you very much. Beloved ones, stand firm in the way of our mawla in this way.
يَا إِخْوَتِي الْأَحِبَّاءَ، أَنْتُمْ فَرَحِي وَتَاجُ رَأْسِي وَأَنَا أَشْتَاقُ إِلَيْكُمْ كَثِيرًا. أَيُّهَا الْأَحِبَّاءُ، هَكَذَا اصْمُدُوا فِي طَرِيقِ مَوْلَانَا.

I urge Euodia as I urge Syntyche to be women who are united in their way of thinking and obedient to our mawla.
أُنَاشِدُ يُودِيَةَ كَمَا أُنَاشِدُ سِنْتِيخَةَ أَنْ تَتَّحِدَا بِفِكْرِهِمَا مُطِيعَتَيْنِ مَوْلَانَا.

As for you, my sincere friend, I ask you also to aid these two women who have struggled with me in spreading the good news with Clement and the rest of my colleagues whose names are recorded in the scroll of life.
أَمَّا أَنْتَ، يَا رَفِيقِي الْمُخْلِصَ، فَأَطْلُبُ مِنْكَ أَيْضًا أَنْ تُؤَيِّدَ هَاتَيْنِ الْمَرْأَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ جَاهَدَتَا مَعِي فِي نَشْرِ الْبُشْرَى مَعَ كَلِيمِنْتَ وَبَاقِي زُمَلَائِي، اَلْمُسَجَّلَةِ أَسْمَاؤُهُمْ فِي سِفْرِ الْحَيَاةِ.

Rejoice in your belonging to our mawla always! I repeat my saying: Rejoice!
اِفْرَحُوا بِانْتِمَائِكُمْ إِلَى مَوْلَانَا دَائِمًا! وَأُكَرِّرُ قَوْلِي: اِفْرَحُوا!

Let your kindness appear to everyone, since our mawla is near.
لِيَظْهَرْ لُطْفُكُمْ لِلْجَمِيعِ، إِذْ مَوْلَانَا قَرِيبٌ.

Do not worry about anything. Rather, pray dua' to Allah, entreating him for all your needs, imploring him for them as you praise and thank him.
لَا تَقْلَقُوا عَلَى شَيْءٍ، بَلِ ادْعُوا اللهَ وَتَضَرَّعُوا بِكُلِّ حَاجَاتِكُمْ مُتَوَسِّلِينَ لَهُ بِهَا حَامِدِينَ شَاكِرِينَ،

And the peace of Allah, which is higher than humans can understand, will protect your hearts and thinking in your belonging to Al-Masih Isa.
فَسَلَامُ اللهِ الَّذِي يَفُوقُ فَهْمَ الْبَشَرِ سَيَحْفَظُ قُلُوبَكُمْ وَأَفْكَارَكُمْ بِانْتِمَائِكُمْ إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى.

Finally, brothers, let your thoughts be busy with what is true, respectable, just, pure, lovely, honorable, and what is worthy of grace and commendation.
فِي الْخِتَامِ أَيُّهَا الْإِخْوَةُ، لِتَنْشَغِلْ أَفْكَارُكُمْ بِمَا هُوَ حَقٌّ وَمُحْتَرَمٌ وَعَدْلٌ وَطَاهِرٌ وَمُسْتَحَبٌّ وَشَرِيفٌ وَمَا هُوَ جَدِيرٌ بِالْفَضْلِ وَالْمَدْحِ،

Do according to what you learned, received, and heard from me and what you saw in me, and the Rabb of peace will be with you.
وَاعْمَلُوا طِبْقًا لِمَا تَعَلَّمْتُمُوهُ وَتَسَلَّمْتُمُوهُ وَسَمِعْتُمُوهُ مِنِّي وَرَأَيْتُمُوهُ فِيَّ، وَسَيَبْقَى مَعَكُمْ رَبُّ السَّلَامِ.

My joy is great in our belonging to our mawla, because you have finally renewed your concern for me. You were actually concerned, but you lacked an opportunity.
فَرَحِي كَبِيرٌ بِانْتِمَائِنَا إِلَى مَوْلَانَا، لِأَنَّكُمْ جَدَّدْتُمْ أَخِيرًا اهْتِمَامَكُمْ بِي، وَقَدْ كُنْتُمْ فِعْلًا مُهْتَمِّينَ، لَكِنْ نَقَصَتْكُمُ الْفُرْصَةُ.

I do not complain of deprivation, because I have learned contentment in all my circumstances, whatever they are.
لَا أَشْكُو الْحِرْمَانَ، لِأَنَّنِي تَعَلَّمْتُ الْقَنَاعَةَ فِي كُلِّ ظُرُوفِي مَهْمَا كَانَتْ.

I have experienced deprivation and plenty, and I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether I am hungry or full, lacking or having excess.
اِخْتَبَرْتُ الْحِرْمَانَ وَوَفْرَةَ الْخَيْرِ، وَتَعَلَّمْتُ سِرَّ الْقَنَاعَةِ فِي كُلِّ وَضْعٍ، سَوَاءٌ أَكُنْتُ جَائِعًا أَمْ شَبْعَانًا، نَاقِصًا أَمْ زَائِدًا،

I can do everything through our mawla who strengthens me.
فَأَنَا أَسْتَطِيعُ عَمَلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ بِوَاسِطَةِ مَوْلَانَا الَّذِي يُقَوِّينِي.
14
But out of your kindness, you shared with me in my hardship.
لَكِنَّكُمْ مِنْ لُطْفِكُمْ شَارَكْتُمُونِي فِي ضِيقِي.
15
أَيُّهَا الْفِيلِبِّيُّونَ، تَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ كَانَتْ بِدَايَةُ الْبُشْرَى مُنْذُ خُرُوجِي مِنْ مَقِدُونِيَّا، حَيْثُ لَمْ تُشَارِكْنِي أَيَّةُ جَمَاعَةٍ مِنْ جَمَاعَاتِ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ فِي الْعَطَاءِ وَالِاسْتِلَامِ إِلَّا أَنْتُمْ،

But you sent help to me in Thessalonica when I needed it more than once.
إِذْ أَرْسَلْتُمْ إِلَيَّ بِالْمَعُونَةِ فِي تَسَالُونِيقَا عِنْدَ حَاجَتِي إِلَى ذَلِكَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مَرَّةٍ.

I do not seek the gift. Rather, I seek what Allah will record in your account.
أَنَا لَا أَسْعَى إِلَى الْعَطَاءِ، بَلْ إِلَى مَا يُسَجِّلُهُ اللهُ لِحِسَابِكُمْ،

I have everything I need, and even more. Since Epaphroditus delivered what you sent, I have been overflowing with good things. That was an acceptable, pleasing offering, with a pure aroma to Allah.
فَلَدَيَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ أَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ وَأَكْثَرُ، بَلْ لَقَدْ فَاضَ الْخَيْرُ عَلَيَّ بَعْدَ أَنْ أَسْلَمَنِي أَبَافْرُودِيتُ مَا أَرْسَلْتُمُوهُ، وَكَانَ قُرْبَانًا مَقْبُولًا مُرْضِيًا زَكِيَّ الرَّائِحَةِ عِنْدَ اللهِ،

My Rabb will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches through Al-Masih Isa.
فَرَبِّي سَيَسُدُّ كُلَّ حَاجَاتِكُمْ حَسَبَ غِنَاهُ الْمَجِيدِ بِوَاسِطَةِ الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى،

Greet the holy people who belong to Al-Masih Isa one by one. The brothers who are with me greet you.
سَلِّمُوا عَلَى الْمُقَدَّسِينَ الْمُنْتَمِينَ إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى فَرْدًا فَرْدًا. يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْكُمُ الْإِخْوَةُ الْمَوْجُودُونَ مَعِي.

All the holy people greet you, especially those who are of the household of Caesar.
وَيُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعُ الْمُقَدَّسِينَ، وَلَا سِيَّمَا الَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ الْقَيْصَرِ.

The grace of our mawla Isa Al-Masih be with all of your spirits. Amen.
فَضْلُ مَوْلَانَا عِيسَى الْمَسِيحِ مَعَ أَرْوَاحِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ. آمِينَ.
