«   Chapter 3   »

1
Foolish people of Galatia, who has stricken you with the eye? Isa Al-Masih was shown as crucified before your very eyes.
يَا أَهْلَ غَلَاطِيَةَ الْأَغْبِيَاءَ، مَنْ أَصَابَكُمْ بِالْعَيْنِ؟ لَقَدْ عُرِضَ عِيسَى الْمَسِيحُ مَصْلُوبًا أَمَامَ أَعْيُنِكُمْ!

Tell me just one thing: Did you receive the gift of Ruh Allah through implementing the regulations of the sharia or by trusting in what you heard?
أَخْبِرُونِي بِشَيْءٍ وَاحِدٍ فَقَطْ: هَلْ نِلْتُمْ هِبَةَ رُوحِ اللهِ بِوَاسِطَةِ تَطْبِيقِ فَرَائِضِ الشَّرِيعَةِ أَمْ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَى مَا سَمِعْتُمُوهُ؟

Has foolishness gotten that far in you? You began by Al-Ruh. Are you completing now by the body?
هَلْ بَلَغَ بِكُمُ الْغَبَاءُ إِلَى هَذَا الْحَدِّ؟ أَنْتُمْ بَدَأْتُمْ بِالرُّوحِ فَهَلْ تُكَمِّلُونَ الْآنَ بِالْجَسَدِ؟

Did you undergo all this suffering for nothing? Is it thinkable that it was really for nothing?
أَقَاسَيْتُمْ كُلَّ هَذَا الْعَنَاءِ عَبَثًا؟ هَلْ مِنَ الْمَعْقُولِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ عَبَثًا بِالْفِعْلِ؟

Does Allah give you Al-Ruh and do ayat among you because you implement the regulations of the sharia or because you trust in what you heard?
أَيَهَبُكُمُ اللهُ الرُّوحَ وَيُجْرِي بَيْنَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ بِسَبَبِ تَطْبِيقِ فَرَائِضِ الشَّرِيعَةِ أَمْ بِسَبَبِ التَّوَكُّلِ عَلَى مَا سَمِعْتُمُوهُ؟

As "Ibrahim trusted in Allah, and he accounted righteousness to him,"
كَمَا «تَوَكَّلَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَى اللهِ، فَحَسَبَهُ لَهُ صَلَاحًا،»

be sure that those who trust are sons of Ibrahim.
فَكُونُوا عَلَى يَقِينٍ أَنَّ الْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ هُمْ أَبْنَاءُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،

Allah revealed in his kitab beforehand that he would give righteousness to the non-Yahudi nations by trust. He announced that good news to Ibrahim beforehand when he said, "I will bless all the nations though you."
وَقَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ فِي كِتَابِهِ أَنَّهُ سَيَهَبُ الصَّلَاحَ لِلْأُمَمِ غَيْرِ الْيَهُودِ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ، فَأَعْلَنَ تِلْكَ الْبُشْرَى لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ مُسَبَّقًا قَائِلًا: «سَأُبَارِكُ جَمِيعَ الْأُمَمِ مِنْ خِلَالِكَ،»

So Allah blessed those who trust along with Ibrahim who trusted.
لِذَلِكَ بَارَكَ اللهُ الْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ مَعَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ.

Allah also cursed all those who depend on implementing the regulations of the sharia, confirming what was written in the kitab: "Allah has cursed all those who do not continue to fulfill everything that is written in the sharia of the Tawrat."
كَمَا لَعَنَ اللهُ جَمِيعَ الْمُعْتَمِدِينَ عَلَى تَطْبِيقِ فَرَائِضِ الشَّرِيعَةِ مِصْدَاقًا لِمَا وَرَدَ فِي الْكِتَابِ: «لَقَدْ لَعَنَ اللهُ جَمِيعَ الَّذِينَ لَا يُوَاظِبُونَ عَلَى تَطْبِيقِ كُلِّ مَا كُتِبَ فِي شَرِيعَةِ التَّوْرَاةِ.»

Thus it is clear that Allah does not account anyone righteous because of the sharia, since it is written that the righteous lives by trust.
هَكَذَا يَتَّضِحُ أَنَّ اللهَ لَا يَحْسَبُ أَحَدًا مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ بِسَبَبِ الشَّرِيعَةِ، إِذْ وَرَدَ أَنَّ الصَّالِحَ يَحْيَا بِالتَّوَكُّلِ.

The sharia does not depend on trust. Rather, it is written that the one who obeys the sharia will live by its regulations.
وَالشَّرِيعَةُ لَا تَعْتَمِدُ عَلَى التَّوَكُّلِ، بَلْ وَرَدَ أَنَّ مُطِيعَ الشَّرِيعَةِ يَحْيَا بِشَرَائِعِهَا.

Al-Masih ransomed us from the curse of the sharia since he became a curse to ransom us. It is written in the kitab of Allah: "Allah cursed everyone who is attached to a tree."
إِنَّ الْمَسِيحَ فَدَانَا مِنْ لَعْنَةِ الشَّرِيعَةِ إِذْ أَصْبَحَ لَعْنَةً فِدًى لَنَا، فَقَدْ وَرَدَ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ: «لَعَنَ اللهُ كُلَّ مُعَلَّقٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ،»

That is so that the barakat of Ibrahim would reach the non-Yahudi nations through Isa Al-Masih, and so that we would be given the promised Al-Ruh through trust.
وَذَلِكَ لِكَيْ تَصِلَ بَرَكَاتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِلَى الْأُمَمِ غَيْرِ الْيَهُودِ عَنْ طَرِيقِ عِيسَى الْمَسِيحِ، حَتَّى نُوهَبَ الرُّوحَ الْمَوْعُودَ مِنْ خِلَالِ التَّوَكُّلِ.

Brothers, I give you a human example: If a person writes a will and it is certified, no one can annul it or add anything to it.
أَيُّهَا الْإِخْوَةُ، أَضْرِبُ لَكُمْ مَثَلًا بَشَرِيًّا: إِنْ كَتَبَ إِنْسَانٌ مِيثَاقًا وَتَمَّ التَّصْدِيقُ عَلَيْهِ، لَا يُمْكِنُ لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُلْغِيَهُ أَوْ يُضِيفَ لَهُ شَيْئًا.

Allah spoke promises to Ibrahim to him and to his seed. He did not say "to your seeds," which would have meant many. Rather, he said "to your seed", which means one, who is Al-Masih.
لَقَدْ كَلَّمَ اللهُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِوُعُودٍ لَهُ وَلِذُرِّيَّتِهِ، وَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ: «لِذُرِّيَّاتِكَ»، فَيَكُونُ الْمَقْصُودُ بِهَا كَثِيرِينَ، بَلْ قَالَ: «لِذُرِّيَّتِكَ»، لِيَكُونَ الْمَقْصُودُ بِهَا وَاحِدًا هُوَ الْمَسِيحُ.

This is what I am saying to you: Allah certified this covenant. So the sharia, which he revealed four hundred thirty years later, does not annul the promise of this certified covenant.
وَهَذَا مَا أَقُولُهُ لَكُمْ: لَقَدْ صَادَقَ اللهُ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِيثَاقِ، فَالشَّرِيعَةُ الَّتِي أَنْزَلَهَا بَعْدَ أَرْبَعِ مِائَةٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً لَا تُلْغِي وَعْدَ هَذَا الْمِيثَاقِ الْمُصَادَقِ عَلَيْهِ.

If the inheritance rests of the sharia, it no longer rests on the promise. But Allah blessed Ibrahim with the inheritance by a promise.
لَوْ كَانَ الْمِيرَاثُ يَستَنِدُ إِلَى الشَّرِيعَةِ، فَهُوَ لَا يَستَنِدُ بَعْدُ إِلَى الْوَعْدِ، لَكِنَّ اللهَ أَنْعَمَ بِالْمِيرَاثِ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْوَعْدِ.

So why does the sharia exist? It was added because of acts of disobedience, while waiting for the seed to whom Allah had committed himself by the promise. He arranged that matter through angels by the hand of a mediator.
فَلِمَاذَا الشَّرِيعَةُ إِذًا؟ إِنَّهَا أُضِيفَتْ بِسَبَبِ الْمَعَاصِي، بِانْتِظَارِ الذُّرِّيَّةِ الَّتِي تَعَهَّدَ اللهُ لَهَا بِالْوَعْدِ، وَقَدْ دُبِّرَ أَمْرُهَا مِنْ خِلَالِ الْمَلَائِكَةِ عَلَى يَدِ وَسِيطٍ.

A mediator necessitates the presence of more than one side, but Allah is Wahid.
وَالْوَسِيطُ يَقْتَضِي وُجُودَ أَكْثَرِ مِنْ طَرَفٍ، لَكِنَّ اللهَ وَاحِدٌ.

So is the sharia against the promises of Allah? May Allah forbid! If Allah had given a sharia that was able to give life, then righteousness would have truly been by the sharia.
فَهَلِ الشَّرِيعَةُ ضِدَّ وُعُودِ اللهِ؟ حَاشَا لِلهِ! لَوْ أَعْطَى اللهُ شَرِيعَةً قَادِرَةً عَلَى الْإِحْيَاءِ، لَكَانَ الصَّلَاحُ بِالشَّرِيعَةِ حَقًّا.

But in his kitab, Allah has condemned all people as prisoners to sin, so that he could give the promise because of the faithfulness of Isa Al-Masih to everyone who trusts him.
وَلَكِنَّ اللهُ حَكَمَ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ فِي كِتَابِهِ أَنَّ الْكُلَّ أَسْرَى لِلذَّنْبِ، لِيَهَبَ الْوَعْدَ بِسَبَبِ أَمَانَةِ عِيسَى الْمَسِيحِ لِكُلِّ مَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَيْهِ.

Before the time of this trust, we were guarded by the sharia, and were prisoners to it, until this trust appeared.
إِذْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَحِينَ هَذَا التَّوَكُّلُ، كُنَّا مَحْرُوسِينَ بِالشَّرِيعَةِ، أَسْرَى لَهَا حَتَّى يَظْهَرَ هَذَا التَّوَكُّلُ،

So the sharia was an educator until Al-Masih would come, so that we would be accounted righteous by trust in him.
لِذَلِكَ كَانَتِ الشَّرِيعَةُ مُؤَدِّبَنَا إِلَى أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْمَسِيحُ، حَتَّى نُحْسَبَ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَيْهِ.

But now, trust has come, and we are no longer under the supervision of an educator.
أَمَّا الْآنَ، فَقَدْ جَاءَ التَّوَكُّلُ، وَلَسْنَا بَعْدُ تَحْتَ إِشْرَافِ مُؤَدِّبٍ.

You are all amirs of Allah by trust in Al-Masih Isa.
إِنَّكُمْ جَمِيعًا أُمَرَاءُ لِلهِ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَى الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى،

All of you who did ghusl as belonging to Al-Masih have been dressed in Al-Masih.
إِذْ جَمِيعُكُمُ الَّذِينَ اغْتَسَلْتُمُ انْتِمَاءً إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ قَدِ اكْتَسَيْتُمْ بِالْمَسِيحِ.

Among you there is no Yahudi or Greek, no slave or free, no man and no woman. You are all one in Al-Masih Isa.
فَلَيْسَ بَيْنَكُمْ يَهُودِيٌّ وَلَا إِغْرِيقِيٌّ، لَيْسَ عَبْدٌ وَلَا حُرٌّ، لَيْسَ ذَكَرٌ وَلَا أُنْثَى، لِأَنَّكُمْ جَمِيعًا وَاحِدٌ فِي الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى.

If you belong to Al-Masih, you are the seed of Ibrahim and his heirs according to the promise.
وَإِنِ انْتَمَيْتُمْ إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ، فَأَنْتُمْ ذُرِّيَّةُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَوُرَثَاؤُهُ حَسَبَ الْوَعْدِ.
