I decided not to come to you again with sorrow.
فَقَدْ صَمَّمْتُ أَلَّا أَعُودَ إِلَيْكُمْ بِالْحُزْنِ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى،

If I were to make you sorrowful, who can make me happy except for the ones I made sorrowful?
إِذْ لَوْ أَحْزَنْتُكُمْ، مَنْ يَسُرُّنِي إِلَّا الَّذِينَ أَحْزَنْتُهُمْ؟

I wrote to you in that way so that if I come, I would not be sorrowful with the people that should be the reason for my happiness. I am confident about you all, that my happiness is your happiness.
لَقَدْ كَتَبْتُ بِتِلْكَ الصِّيغَةِ حَتَّى إِذَا أَتَيْتُ لَا أَحْزَنُ مِمَّنْ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَكُونُوا مَبْعَثَ فَرَحِي، وَأَنَا وَاثِقٌ مِنْ جِهَتِكُمْ جَمِيعًا أَنَّ فَرَحِي هُوَ فَرَحُكُمْ،

I have written to you out of the depth of my sorrow, sadness, and a flood of tears. That is not so that you will be sorrowful but so that you will know the abundance of my love for you.
وَإِنَّ كُنْتُ قَدْ كَتَبْتُ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ شِدَّةِ حُزْنِي وَضِيقِ صَدْرِي وَفَيْضِ دُمُوعِي، فَلَيْسَ لِكَيْ تَحْزَنُوا بَلْ لِتَعْرِفُوا غَزِيرَ مَحَبَّتِي لَكُمْ.

But if anyone is the reason for sorrow, he has not made me sorrowful. Without exaggeration, he has made all of you sorrowful to some extent.
لَكِنْ إِنْ كَانَ أَحَدٌ سَبَبًا فِي الْحُزْنِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُحْزِنِّي أَنَا، بَلْ هُوَ دُونَ مُبَالَغَةٍ أَحْزَنَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَى حَدٍّ مَا.

The punishment of the majority of the jama'a is enough for this person.
وَيَكْفِي لِهَذَا الْإِنْسَانِ عِقَابُ أَغْلَبِيَّةِ الْجَمَاعَةِ،

Now it is better for you to pardon him and encourage him, so that he will not drown in excessive sorrow.
فَالْآنَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ أَنْ تُسَامِحُوهُ وَتُشَجِّعُوهُ، لِئَلَّا يَغْمُرَهُ الْحُزْنُ الْمُفْرِطُ.

So I urge you to confirm your love to him.
لِذَلِكَ أُنَاشِدُكُمْ أَنْ تُؤَكِّدُوا لَهُ مَحَبَّتَكُمْ.

This is why I wrote you: to test you and see if you would be obedient in everything.
لِهَذَا السَّبَبِ كَتَبْتُ إِلَيْكُمْ حَتَّى أَمْتَحِنَكُمْ لِأَرَى إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُطِيعِينَ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ.

If you pardon anyone, I also will pardon him. If anyone really has made a mistake, I have pardoned him for your benefit, to the honor of Al-Masih.
إِنْ سَامَحْتُمْ أَحَدًا، فَأَنَا أَيْضًا سَامَحْتُهُ، وَإِنْ أَخْطَأَ فِعْلًا فَقَدْ سَامَحْتُهُ لِصَالِحِكُمْ إِكْرَامًا لِلْمَسِيحِ،

This is so that Al-Shaitan could not deceive us, because we are not jahil of his whispering temptations.
لِئَلَّا يَخْدَعَنَا الشَّيْطَانُ، إِذْ لَسْنَا جَاهِلِينَ بِوَسَاوِسِهِ.

I went to the city of Troas to spread the good news of Al-Masih, and my mawla opened a door for me there.
لَقَدْ ذَهَبْتُ إِلَى مَدِينَةِ تَرْوَادَ لِنَشْرِ بُشْرَى الْمَسِيحِ، وَهُنَاكَ فَتَحَ لِي مَوْلَايَ بَابًا،

Alhamdulillah. Allah always leads us to be victorious in Al-Masih. Through us, the aroma of his knowledge spreads everywhere.
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي يَقُودُنَا دَائِمًا مُنْتَصِرِينَ فِي الْمَسِيحِ، فَتَعُمَّ مِنْ خِلَالِنَا رَائِحَةُ مَعْرِفَتِهِ فِي كُلِّ مَكَانٍ،

For those who are being destroyed, this is like an aroma of death that leads to death. For those who being saved, this is like an aroma of life that leads to life. Who is capable of these matters?
فَهِيَ لِلْهَالِكِينَ بِمَثَابَةِ رَائِحَةِ الْمَوْتِ الْمُؤَدِّيَةِ إِلَى الْمَوْتِ، وَلِلنَّاجِينَ بِمَثَابَةِ رَائِحَةِ الْحَيَاةِ الْمُؤَدِّيَةِ إِلَى الْحَيَاةِ. وَمَنِ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأُمُورِ؟

We are not like many of those who are merchants of the word of Allah. We are sincere and sent from Allah. We speak in front of Allah, belonging to Al-Masih.
فَلَسْنَا نُشْبِهُ الْكَثِيرِينَ مِنْ تُجَّارِ كَلِمَةِ اللهِ، بَلْ كَمُخْلِصِينَ وَمَبْعُوثِينَ مِنَ اللهِ نَتَكَلَّمُ أَمَامَ اللهِ مُنْتَمِينَ إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ.
