«   Chapter 9   »

1
He told them, "I tell you a true saying: Indeed some of the people standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of Allah come with power."
2
Six days later, Isa took Peter, Yacoub, and John, and led them by themselves to a high mountain. His appearance in form was changed in front of them.
3
His clothing turned shining, bright white, whiter than any bleaching on earth could make it.
4
Then Ilyas along with Musa appeared to them. They were speaking with Isa.
5
Peter answered and told Isa, "Honored teacher, it is good that we are here. Let us set up three tents: for you, for Musa, and for Ilyas."
6
(He did not know what to say because he was terrified.)
7
Then a cloud covered them with its shadow and a voice came from the cloud, "This is my beloved Amir. Listen to him."
8
Suddenly as they looked around them, they did not see anyone except Isa with them.
9
As they were going down the mountain, Isa commanded them not to tell anyone what they had seen until Sayyid Al-Bashar was resurrected alive from death.
10
They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what resurrection from death meant.
11
They asked him, "Why do the Pharisees and the fuqaha say that Ilyas must come first?"
12
He told them, "Ilyas does come first, to restore all things. And how is it written in the kitab about Sayyid Al-Bashar, that he must suffer many pains and be treated with contempt?
13
But I tell you that Ilyas has already come, and they did whatever they wanted to him, as it is written in the kitab about him."
14
When they returned to the rest of the hawariyun, he found a large crowd around them and the fuqaha arguing with them.
15
And immediately, when the crowd saw him, they were greatly amazed and ran up to greet him.
16
He asked them, "What are you arguing about with them?"
17
One of the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought you my son who has spirit of dumbness.
18
Whenever it touches him, it seizes him and throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes stiff. I asked your hawariyun to cast it out, but they could not."
19
Isa answered them, "Generation of kuffar, how long must I remain with you? How long must I bear you? Bring him to me."
20
And so he brought the boy to Isa. As soon as the spirit saw Isa, he immediately convulsed the boy. The boy fell on the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.
21
Isa asked his father, "How long has it touched him?" He answered, "Since childhood.
22
It often throws him into the fire or into water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, help us and have pity on us."
23
Isa said, "'If you can?' All things are possible to a person who trusts."
24
Immediately, the father of the boy shouted, "I trust! Help me in my doubt!"
25
When Isa saw that the crowd was running toward him, he rebuked the unclean spirit, "Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you to come out of him and not to enter into him anymore."
26
And as the jinni shouted and convulsed the boy violently, it came out. The boy seemed to be dead. Most of the people said that he was dead.
27
But Isa took his hand and raised him, and he stood up.
28
When Isa entered the house, his hawariyun asked him in private, "Why could we not cast it out?"
29
He told them, "This kind cannot be cast out except through praying in dua'."
30
When they left there, they passed through Al-Jalil. And he did not want anyone to know.
31
For he was teaching his hawariyun. He said to them, "Sayyid Al-Bashar must be delivered into the hands of men who will kill him. But after he has been killed, he will be resurrected alive from death after three days."
32
But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask him.
33
Then they came to Capernaum. While Isa was in the house, he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way?"
34
They were silent, because on the way they had been discussing who was the greatest.
35
Then Isa sat down and called the hawariyun. He told them, "Suppose someone wants to be the first. He should be the last of all and servant of all."
36
And when he had received a child, Isa placed him in the middle of them. As he hugged him, Isa said,
37
"Whoever receives one of these children in my name receives me. And whoever receives me receives not me, but the One who sent me."
38
John said, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out jinn in your name. So we forbade him because he was not following us."
39
But Isa said, "Do not forbid him. No one who does a work of power in my name can quickly say something evil about me.
40
Whoever is not against us is for us.
41
I tell you a true saying: Whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you are mine will not lose his reward.
42
Suppose someone leads one of these little ones who trust in me astray. It would be better for him to have a large stone tied around his neck and to be thrown into the sea.
43
If your hand makes you stumble, cut it off.
44
Entering life maimed is better for you than having both hands and going into the unquenchable fire of Jahannam.
45
If your foot makes you stumble, cut it off.
46
Entering life crippled is better for you than having both feet and being thrown into Jahannam with both feet.
47
If your eye makes you stumble, pull it out. Entering into the life of the kingdom of Allah with one eye is better than being thrown into Jahannam with two eyes.
48
There their worm never dies and the fire is unquenchable.
49
Everyone will be salted with fire.
50
Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be seasoned? Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another."
