Hebrews

«   Chapter 12   »

1
Therefore, since we have a great cloud of those many witnesses surrounding us, we must throw aside everything that hinders us, and the disobedience that sticks to us. We must patiently enter the race that has been presented to us,
2
looking and focusing on Isa, the opener and sealer of the door of our faith. For the sake of the joy that was presented to him, he patiently bore the cross and despised the shame. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of Allah.
3
Meditate on him so that you don't get tired and your souls become discouraged. He patiently bore the harsh enmity of the kuffar against him.
4
Your struggle against sins has not yet reached the level of shedding blood.
5
Did you forget what Allah said to encourage you as if you were his sons? He said, "My son, do not take the discipline of Rabb Al-Alamin toward you lightly. Do not be disheartened if he rebukes you.
6
Rabb Al-Alamin disciplines the people he loves. He whips everyone in whom he has rida as if he were his son."
7
So patiently bear the discipline of Allah. He is treating you as sons. Is there a father who does not discipline his son?
8
If you have not received the discipline of Allah, as everyone has received, you are not his family but abandoned children with no relationship to him.
9
If we respect the fathers of our bodies who disciplined us, is it not more important to submit to Al-Malik Al-Rahman, the Khaliq of our spirits, so that we can live?
10
Our fathers disciplined us for a few days according to what they thought appropriate. But Allah disciplines us for our benefit, so that we would be given a portion of his holiness.
11
No discipline gives joy at the time, but rather sorrow. Later, it produces the fruit of righteousness and peace in those who submit to it.
12
So strengthen your feeble hands and your weak knees.
13
Make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be twisted, but rather be healed.
14
Seek for peace with everyone, and for the purity of holiness. Without that, no one will have the baraka of insight and knowledge of Allah.
15
Be careful that no one deprives himself of the grace of Allah, so that no corrupt root of bitterness sprout inside him and contaminate many others.
16
None of you should become corrupt or love this world like Al-Is, who renounced his right to the inheritance as the first-born son in exchange for one meal.
17
You know that rejection was his answer later when he wanted the baraka of the first-born from his father. Despite his tears, he did not find a way to repentance.
18
You have not approached something tangible, nor a burning fire, blackness, darkness, a tornado,
19
the sound of a trumpet, or a voice speaking which made the listeners terrified. They asked that they would not receive another word.
20
They could not bear the commandment of Allah: "If even a beast touches the mountain, let it be executed by stoning."
21
That sight was so fearsome that Musa said: "I am frightened and trembling!"
22
But you have come near to the mountain of the city of Allah Al-Hayy, heavenly Al-Quds, to tens of thousands of angels gathered,
23
to the jama'a of the first-born whose names are written in heaven, to Allah, the Hakam of everyone, to the spirits of the righteous who have been made perfect,
24
to Isa, the mediator of the new covenant, and to his sprinkled blood which calls out with a better call than the call of the blood of Habil.
25
So beware of refusing the caller!
26
His voice shook the earth at that time, but now he has promised, saying: "I will shake the earth again, and not only the earth, but heaven along with it."
27
The expression "again" means that he will cause what is shaken, the creation, to disappear, so that only what is unshakeable will remain.
28
So, since we have been given his unshakeable kingdom, let us be thankful, and by our thanks let us worship Allah with pleasing worship, with reverence and awe.
29
Our Rabb is like a consuming fire.
