John

«   Chapter 9   »

1
On his way, he saw a man who had been blind since birth.
2
His hawariyun asked him, "Honored teacher, what made him blind? Was it his sins or the sins of his parents?"
3
Isa answered them, "Neither his nor theirs. He was born blind so that the ayat of Allah would be shown in him.
4
We must do the works of the One who sent me as long as it is day. When night comes, work is impossible.
5
I am the light of the world as long as I am in the world."
6
After that, he spat in the dust, made clay, and rubbed it on the eyes of the man born blind.
7
He commanded him, "Go and wash in the Siloam Pool." (Siloam means sent.) So he went and washed. When he returned, he could see.
8
His neighbors and other people who knew him previously asked each other, "Is this the person who sat and begged?"
9
Some of them said, "It is he." Other people said, "No, but he looks similar to him." But he said continually, "I am he!"
10
The Yahudi leaders asked him, "How were your eyes opened?"
11
He answered them, "The man named Isa made clay, put it on my eyes, and commanded me to wash in Siloam Pool. So I went and washed and I could see."
12
They asked him, "Where is he?" He answered, "I do not know."
13
They brought the man who had been blind to the Pharisees.
14
The day that Isa made clay and healed the man born blind was Al-Sabt.
15
The Pharisees asked him again how he could see. He told them, "Isa rubbed clay on my eyes, I washed them, and I could see."
16
Some of the Pharisees said, "This Isa is not from Allah. He does not keep the sunnah of Al-Sabt." Another group said, "How could a disobedient person do such miracles?" There was a disagreement among them.
17
They asked the man born blind again, "What do you think about him? He opened your eyes." He said, "He is a nabi."
18
The leaders of Al-Yahud did not believe that he had been blind and was now able to see, until they summoned his parents.
19
They asked them, "Is this your son, whom you claim was born blind? How can he see now?"
20
His parents answered, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind.
21
But we do not know how he can see now. We do not know who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is legally an adult. He can give shahada for himself."
22
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Yahudi leaders. The Yahudi leaders had threatened that anyone who gave shahada that Isa was Al-Masih would be excluded from the house of salat.
23
That is why they said that he was legally an adult, and to ask him.
24
They called the man who had been born blind again and made him swear to tell the truth. They said, "Swear by Allah! We know that this man is disobedient."
25
He answered, "I do not know if he is disobedient. But I do know one thing. I was blind and now I can see."
26
They asked him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
27
He answered them, "I already told you and you did not listen. Do you want to hear it again so you can become his followers, too?"
28
They cursed him, "You are one of his followers, but we are followers of Musa.
29
We know Allah spoke to Musa. But we do not know where this man came from."
30
The man said, "This is amazing! He opened my eyes and you do not know where he came from!
31
We know that Allah does not respond to disobedient people. But Allah will respond to a reverent person who does the will of Allah.
32
Healing a man born blind has never been heard of since the days of Adam.
33
If he were not from Allah, he could not do anything."
34
They answered him, "Your whole body was born in sin. Are [you]{.underline} teaching [us]{.underline}?" Then they cast him out.
35
Isa heard that he had been cast out, so he found him. He asked him, "Do you believe in Sayyid Al-Bashar?"
36
He answered him, "Master, who is he, so I can believe in him?"
37
Isa told him, "You have seen him, and he is speaking with you.
38
I came into this world for judgment, so that the blind could see and people who see would become blind."
39
Some of the Pharisees around him heard what he said, and asked him,
40
"Are we blind, too?"
41
Isa told them, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty, but since you claim that you see, your guilt remains."
